The Month of the Military Child

April 3, 2023

There are quite a few special days in April. Such as the hilarious and silly April Fools’ Day and the increasingly important event of Earth Day on April 22nd. However, even better than a one-day holiday is a month-long celebration. All April long is designated as the Month of the Military Child

The Defense Department celebrates the more than 1.6 million military children who face many challenges and unique experiences as a result of their parent’s service. These children are recognized for their sacrifice and bravery on the home front.

While military members serve around the world, the challenges faced by their children are often forgotten. Military families move on average every two to three years. This proves to have a massive impact on military children through changing schools and support networks.

Every year, the Defense Department along with the national, state, and local government, schools, military serving organizations, companies, and private citizens join in celebrating military children and the sacrifices they make.

Purple Up” is used over the course of the month, since purple is a color used to represent all military services. Purple Up Day is honored on April 15th, a specific day during the month to honor military children from all branches. To let them know that they are recognized and appreciated in society. They make many sacrifices to make sure our country is safe. So deck yourself out in purple to recognize them.
